Democrats = KKK

On Friday, Bob devoted a good chunk of time pimping a new book by serial liar David Barton. The book purportedly documents the association between the post-Civil War Democratic Party and the Ku Klux Klan. Bob provided his usual keen intellectual insight by merely reading a WorldNetDaily article practically word-for-word.

Of course, it's no big secret that the signer of the Emancipation Proclamation, President Abraham Lincoln, was a Republican. It's also no secret that racist Southerns flocked to the Democratic Party and African-Americans flocked to the Republicans after the Civil War. But Barton, WND, and Dutko act like they just undiscovered some hidden facts and therefore present day African-Americans should naturally flock back to the Republicans because the Democrats are a bunch of cross-burning Oak-tree-lynching racists.

Luckily, an intelligent listener called in during "free-for-all" Friday set Bob straight. The caller made two important points, which I will reiterate.

First, Bob's "reporting" of this story was irrelevant. African-American voters make their political choices based on what is in their best interest today, not their ancestors' best interest in the years following the Civil War.

Second, Bob's "reporting" was incomplete. Specifically, Bob refused to mention Republican's Southern Strategy. The Southern Strategy was the Republican's attempt to lock up the Electoral votes of the Southern states by appealing to the racists who were unsatisfied with civil rights legislation championed by the Democrats. (Of course, by not mentioning this racist policy, Bob is lying by omission).

Give it up, Bob. Stop trying to equate the racists of the KKK to the present-day Democratic Party. It's just plain dishonest.

"Little Snippets"

As DJ has mentioned before, Bob utilizes a lot of techniques (voice inflections, etc.) in his daily broadcast to make his position sound appealing and to cast opposing positions in a negative fashion.

For example, Bob also likes to throw in little words of disparagement of the opposing position whenever possible. For example, Bob launched into one of his routine tirades against the scientific theory of evolution/common descent today. In doing so, Bob stated that evolution is scientifically impossible when you look at "all the evidence," not just the "little snippets" provided in the peer-reviewed publications. There has been over 130 years of scientific exploration into the origin of life on Earth and Bob reduces that down to some easily dismissed "little snippets."

Just take a look at this list of 100s of references used in creating the "29+ Evidences for Macroevolution"* at TalkOrigins. Does that list look like a few "little snippets" to you? And believe me, this isn't even close to a complete list of scientific articles written about evolution/common descent.

Bob, please stop being dishonest. God doesn't like liars.

*Please note that unlike Bob's technique, it's "evidences" of evolution, not "proofs". Science doesn't deal with absolute proofs.

The Earth is the Center of the Universe?

Bob surprised even me this week. On Tuesday, I heard him state that the Earth was the center of the Universe.

My jaw dropped. Did I travel back to the time of Aristotle and Ptolemy?

No, I was just listening to Bob, as he is oft to do, regurgitating nonsense created by his friends over at Answers in Genesis. AiG basically says that the Earth or the Milky Way is the center of the Universe because the redshifts of other objects in the Universe appear quantized.

Of course, it's all nonsense (as is explained by a real scientist here).

But why are Bob and AiG are trying to push this Earth/Milky Way-centric argument? I wasn't aware that the Bible even asserted that the galaxy was the center of the Universe. It just makes him look even more foolish.

Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity

Today, Bob had a guest on with the "Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity." This group sponsors a day of civil disobedience in which students attempt to abstain from talking for a day. During the course of the interview, the guest and Bob casually asserted that pro-choice people have to lie to make their point.

Well, I went to the group's website and found this statement on the front page:

Over 4,000 children have their lives taken each day in the name of choice.
Over 4,000 women are emotionally damaged every day.

Essentially, they're saying that each and every woman who gets an abortion is somehow "emotionally damaged" by their decision to have an abortion.

That's what I call a lie.

There's absolutely no evidence to support this argument in any way. On the contrary, the evidence supports the opposite position.

Folks, I absolutely support the rights of anyone to speak out (or remain silent) against what they think is morally wrong. After all, it's one of our First Amendment rights. But if you have to lie (unnecessarily) to make your point, you're undermining your position. Do some women regret having an abortion? Sure, I have no doubt. Do all or even the majority of women share this regret? To that, I believe the answer is a resounding NO.
