Bob says, "I told you so"; but he's wrong again

There's good news from scientific researchers in Japan. As PZ Meyers explains, the researchers have figured out how to reprogram adult cells into a state that is nearly indistinguishable from that of embryonic, pluripotent stem cells.

Bob is all excited about this; as we all should be. The use of pluripotent stem cells will hopefully provide life saving breakthroughs in medicine. But Bob seems to be more excited about throwing out a "we told you so". In fact, Bob is wrong as usual.

Bob has stated time and time again, as he did again today, that "embryonic stem cell research has produced no results." This is absolutely wrong. In fact, embryonic stem cell research was necessary to arrive at this discovery! The Washington Post reports that:

One of the researchers involved in yesterday's reports said the Bush restrictions may have slowed discovery of the new method, since scientists first had to study embryonic cells to find out how to accomplish the same thing without embryos.

"My feeling is that the political controversy set the field back four or five years," said James Thomson, who led a team at the University of Wisconsin and who discovered human embryonic stem cells in 1998.

So good job, Bob! You, Bush, and your ilk have successfully done nothing but delay. Way to go!
