Jesus Commanded Prayer, Right?

Hey Bobbo,

I think it's really nice that everyone over at WMUZ prays for the troops.

But here's what I don't get: Jesus specifically commanded us to pray for our enemies. How come you don't?

Luke 6:27-36 states:
But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit (is) that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount. But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Bobbo, I've heard you pray for the troops, listeners, the and President. But I've never, ever heard you pray for the terrorists. Why don't you want to follow Christ's commandments?

Yours in the Republican Party,

Irl

Irl,

I'm sure that Bob will agree that Christ's commandments are simply too hard to actually live up to. All this "love one another" stuff is tough! It's easier for Bob to simply focus his hatred on the "terrorists", then admit to God he's a sinner and he's "fallen short". Then he can get back to the important business of selling CDs for profit.

I don't want people praying for the terrorists/insurgents. I had enough problems in Iraq without them having God on their side!:)

I always tell people that it's hard to be a Christian in the military because Jesus tells us to love our enemies. The Army trained me to kill them.

I think you have a good point on that one. Yes that is a tough commandment Jesus was a radical.

Hey guys,

I'm certain that Bob would not be against praying for terrorists and his enemies as Jesus commands. I haven't seen him do it on air but I don't remember hearing him pray at all on the air other than the WUMZ prayers that are supposed to be for the American troops. He probably has prayed for his enemies, but I don't know, maybe you should ask him. It sounds like an interesting topic.

djtyg and kdog,

You're right; this is a really tough teaching. I struggled with this too. But remember that God "wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" read 1 Timothy 2:1-4 and as quoted earlier Jesus tells us to pray for our enemies, so we should keep praying.
