Bob and Vaccinations

Bob has a paranoid distrust of vaccines, and stated that he has not vaccinated his children. Frequently, he allows anti-vaccination quack Mary Tocco on his show. (Mary sells her lectures on DVD for a profit, just like Bob. Who could have guessed?)

Much of the modern anti-vaccination furor was supported by a 1998 study published in the prestigious British medical journal The Lancet. The study purported that a link existed between the MMR vaccine and autism. Well, surprise surprise, the Times of London is now reporting that the data used in the study was completely faked. Of course, for people in the reality-based world this isn't a surprise at all, as numerous other studies have failed to show any link between vaccination and autism.

So, will Bob comment on this latest refutation of the anti-vax crowd? Nope.

For some strange reason, Bob wants to keep his listeners in a state of ignorance so they'll forgo vaccinations, and endanger the health of the population as a whole.

I have a hard time believing that you are concerned with endangering the public health, after all aren't you one of the contributors on here that thinks abortion is not murder? Kind of hypocritical don't you think? Oh I get it, you are concerned for the health of children only after they are born, not before. This is really a stretch even for you.

Seems like your God is science and your "intellect", but unfortunately it is not that God you will be accountable to when your life here on earth is over.

Suzanne, one of the problems I have with your ilk is that you are no doubt voting for Republicans and for tax-cuts for everyone with a net worth of $100,000,000.00 or more and you want compulsory pregnancy because you are "for life" but you don't give a DAMN about the unfortunate ones once they have been born. Your kind do not want want to give them a scrap of help, education, health-care, environmental protection, good economic prospects, nothing, just make those people have those babies!

I repeat, if you're against abortion, DON'T HAVE ONE. Why don't you do what you Republican types say you want government to do AND STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY LIFE (and everyone else's), and in PARTICULAR MY BEDROOM and the UTERUS of my significant other!

Seems to me you only care about the child BEFORE it's born, and the devil with it after it's born. I get it, these people will make good soldiers for all the wars coming up against the brown people who have mineral wealth our elites want to steal, right?

Prove me wrong and repudiate all the Bush policies of the last eight years? I bet you can't.

Wow. You know that anger is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies, don't you?
My ilk. You know zero about me, but just so you know I am a wife, mother, grandmother and yes dare I say it I vote republican if the candidate seems to share in the principles and and christian values that I believe are the only hope for this country. I am not asking you to believe what I do.
I care deeply about children, have 4 of my own and 4 grandchildren as well as sponsoring a child in Ecuador, the first of many, God willing.
My views on abortion are not meant to make you so angry. They come from personal experience. My oldest daughter and I went to an abortion clinic when she found herself unmarried, in college and pregnant years ago. Thank God they did an ultrasound and we saw the child being formed in her womb, we could not go through with it. Her name is Olivia and she just turned 6. Thank GOD we did not go through with the abortion. We would have killed Olivia. That sounds harsh but there is no way around the truth of it.
You really do generalize about people too much, it is almost as if they aren't even people, merely opposition to what you think is right.
It is with the greatest pleasure that I intend to stay far away from your bedroom and your significant other's uterus.
Was I wrong in assuming this is a public blog open for comments? If so, make it private. I am not really even sure why I bother really.
There is so much hate on this blog, I thought maybe I could make a difference. Perhaps I was wrong.

Suzanne,

Why have you changed the subject of the post? I was talking about how Bob has provided misinformation about vaccinations. Next thing I know, you're talking about abortion. Why have you ignored the fact that the information that Bob and the anti-vaccination folks are presenting at fact has been revealed as a farce?

I already knew you voted Republican, I also know you are part of the compulsory pregnancy brigade, I also knew you couldn't repudiate the failed policies of the last eight years which have no doubt caused more abortions than stopped them. So far, I'm batting 1000, right? What else is there to know? Your daughter was lucky to have a support system to allow her to have a baby, probably get vaccinations and get health care too, right? Some people aren't so lucky, but you don't care about them do you? Just so long as they have dem babies. Look, I don't care what you do, but you seem to be the one bringing up abortion as if I should care about it? How about it's a woman's private business what she does with HER body? Anyhow, not meaning to chase you off this blog, but think for a moment about what you're saying, the post attacks Bob for discouraging vaccinations, something I might add, helps LIFE and you defend Bob by bring up abortion? Up is down and down is up. I'd love to talk to you about war sometime and the hundreds of thousands of innocents that have been killed in the Middle East with a "Made In USA" stamp on the hardware. I guess I can't stand the hypocrisy of the Compulsory Pregnancy crowd.

There have been several studies by respected medical universities concerning vaccinations. A majority of them have shown no link between vaccinations and autism. The remainder were either inconclusive or the data was thrown out due to improper study techniques or “doctoring’ the results. This has been brought up to Bob-a-lotta-ding-dong several time but he kept trolloping out the same study by Andrew Wakefield as proof conclusive that the link existed, thus proving that there is a vast conspiracy between the doctors and drug manufactures to keep the drug companies in business, kickbacks to the doctors, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. I need a shot of something just to keep me from getting sick listening to the great deceiver.

If you're serious about this, then don't worry about other people and what they do in the privacy of their homes and what other women do with their bodies, some are not as fortunate as your daughter, in fact, probably most aren't as fortunate as your daughter. Stop voting Republican might be one tangible step you can do in this direction. They are for the most part, enemies of the Constitution of the United States. I'm still waiting for you to repudiate the horrible policies of the last administration, but to be on the safe side, I won't hold my breath.

Suzanne@OTPL said...

I did not vote for Bush. I voted Republican in the last election mainly because it was a vote AGAINST Obama who scares me. I don't really call myself a republican I call myself a follower of Jesus.
I don't know enough about the policies of the last administration to repudiate them. Washington and it's foibles are not a main focus in my life.
I like to live in the present tense. There is nothing in the past that you can change and essentially I believe that God in in control of my life. I like it that way.

So Suzanne, I'm curious: Have your children and/or grandchildren been vaccinated? Do you believe, as Bob does, that vaccinations are somehow immoral or against God's will? Should Bob recant or apologize for repeatedly cited studies where the data was clearly false?

Suzanne@OTPL said...

Yes my children and grandchildren have all had their vaccinations.
I am not sure why you are zeroing in on this subject, I certainly am not an authority on this. When my children were babies I was not born again and following the Lord, so I trusted the doctor's authority and went along with what you were supposed to do for your child.
Not sure I would feel that way now. God and His word are my authority now, so I may have questioned more if I had to make that decision in light of my salvation.
"I once was blind, but now I see", are not merely words from a song to me. They are my reality.

My email is suzanne2584@gmail.com if anyone on here would like to ask me anything about my relationship with Jesus.

Suzanne@OTPL said...

To answer your question Jeff -
I have never heard Bob speak on this subject, and I haven't read that vaccinations are against the will of God. But really you could look it up yourself in any concordance or word study of the bible. God's word is God's will, He doesn't make it hard to find out what His will is on any subject.
As far a Bob or anything he believes, He is accountable to God for anything he says on his show. His listeners are not all blindly believing in anything he broadcasts. Some of us think and go to God's word for our final authority in all things.
I hope you have a great day today.

I don't think that you will find the word vaccine in any concordance that I have ever seen. However, I did look up "bearing false witness" and it seems that God is against it.

Suzanne,

That response sounded like a nice tidy cop-out. As for voting against Obama who scares you? He scares you more than a guy that was singing "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran"? Granted Obama isn't my dream candidate either, but he was clearly head and shoulders above the Republican candidate. The fact that you felt you had to vote against him speaks volumes about your judgment.

What about, if you're against vaccines, don't get one.

Talk about a hypocrite.
